Psychosis and Spiritual Awakening

There are many conversations around the world about indigenous cultural responses to psychosis and their contrast with our western responses.  We can see by viewing Crazywise (www.CrazywiseFilm.com) and in the video below that our reactions and treatments effect the process and outcomes.

Phil Borges is internationally known for his books, photography, Ted talks and his award-winning film CRAZYWISE. In partnership with The Healing Field, Phil shares what he has learned from people around the world who have turned their psychological crisis into a positive transformative experience.

How could this be?   Since 2013, Phil has been interviewing psychologists, psychiatrists, mental health workers, peer support workers, sociologists, neuroscientists, shamanic healers and ‘people with lived experience’.  His presentation is deeply moving, and covers some of the new and exciting research that is bringing Science and Spirituality closer together in the world of mental health research.  Topics in this video include: Navigating a ‘psychosis’-what helps and what doesn’t; Ego transcendence and associated potential problems; Neuroscientific discoveries such as the Default Mode Network and ‘Predictive Coding’ and how they determine our ‘sense of self’ and the ability to ‘ground’ when experiencing a psychological crisis.
